need help with my toddler..how do you cure a yeast infection?

Hi,

well i need some help..my son is 2 1/2 and NOT circumcised…he has recently started using his foreskin as a extra pocket aka stuffing cheerios ect in there (any advice how to stop that?)..any ways we think it may have gotten scratched or something ,irritated cause it got a lil read and lil bumps all over the head..i was concerned so i planned to take him to the dr..well the morning of i checked and the bumps had vanished..just some dry pieces of skin was there flaked off…so i decided not to risk the dr office in fear of what id catch..

but im still concerned..it still looks a lil red..but im not sure if thats just him messin with it..or could he have caught a yeast infection?

i tryed googling but cant seem to find info on this..

i was thinking of just doing something more natural like yogurt..but not sure how much he need to eat..i even read i could put it on the penis..but i dont want to aggravate the issue..

any one had to deal with this yet? any suggestions?

i still breastfeed…so is there anything i could be taking that could help..

thanks alot..i just dont want to ignore it (can yeast even get better on their own?)

he doesnt seem to be bothered that i can tell..but then again he is 2 so hard to really know, kwim

Gladys :)

Is he still in diapers? If not, it’s pretty unlikely that he has a yeast infections because it needs damp to grow. Nystatin ointment or powder is what they usually use for groin yeast in babies but it’s not available Over The Counter. Some powders men use for jock itch are antifungals and technically, yeast is treated with antifungals as well. Clotrimazole cream is an antifungal available OTC. Zeasorb is an antifungal powder available OTC. Ask the pharmacist if he/she thinks it would be ok to try one of those on a 2 1/2 year old with suspected yeast or if you should definitely get it diagnosed by a doctor first.

I am not recommending any steroid cream. None of the above medicines mentioned are steriod creams or contain steroids. The only steroid cream avaiable OTC is hydrocortisone and I would never recommend putting that on a kid of any age’s crotch….unless a doctor told me that the inflammation is so bad that there is no other choice. Some people (ie Mr C) should read more thoroughly before making judgements…

Furthermore, yeast infections are never treated with antibiotics. Yeast is technically a fungus and not a bacteria. If it turns out to be yeast, it is going to be treated with an antifungal, like nystatin, clotrimazole, or miconazole. There is a new product out there called Vusion that contains miconazole(0.25%), petrolatum(81%) and zinc oxide(15%). It is an ointment specifically for the indication of diaper dermatitis from yeast. For babies > 4 weeks old but only available Rx.

Until you get to the Dr. I would put gobs of A&D ointment on it. You can get it at the local drug store. I don’t know that it is a yeast infection. I mean is he itching it all the time? Usually yeast infections itch.

He could have a yeast infection from the sugar in the cearal. However it needs to be treated by a doctor. Not anyon else. So just take him in. Just keep a close eye out on him and don’t let him put things in there.

No yeast infections get WORSE the more they are ignored. DO NOT SO ANYTHING TO TREAT IT ON YOUR OWN. He needs to be treated by a doctor and doctor only with anti-biotics. Putting creams on them (esspeciallly steroid creams like the woman up there mentioned) can make the infection a hell of a lot worse and can caus other infections. Just leave it bee and take him in. Dont’ put anything on it.
When I had my yeast infection the moron doctor I went to said circumcised men couldn’t get yeast infections and gave me a steroid cream, made the thing so bad I had to go to an ER and see a urologist. Circumcised men CAN get yeast infections and the stuff he gave me worsened it (as well as not having it treated so the longer I had it didn’t help either)
