Question about using yogurt for a yeast infection?

I know this is gross, but I have searched like crazy and can’t find the answer. I got my first small yeast infection and found a ton of info saying that yogurt (and putting a garlic clove up there is supposed to work, too) could cure a yeast infection, and to actually put yogurt down there and…inside. Well, I got desperate and actually did it. I also did the garlic for 3 nights.

I keep checking myself to see if the white discharge is gone, but I am still finding some white stuff, which is not lumpy like they say yeast infections are (but it is definitely white, and not something else), no yeasty smell, and is almost like a liquidy texture.

Is this the yogurt coming out still? It’s been about two days since I did that treatment (the frozen yogurt tampon). How do other people get the yogurt out? Does it come out naturally? Get absorbed? If I only find a tiny bit of that and maybe one small (I mean tiny) bit of yeast, am I pretty much home free?

Also, I bought Actimel (euro version of DanActiv) which is a yogurt drink with lots of live cultures. Will drinking, say, 8 small bottles of this in the course of a day for a few days help curing this along?

I know this is a lot, but the question about getting the yogurt out is the most important! What is supposed to happen?!

    First things first:
Yoghurt doesn’t always work, nor does garlic. If you’re still experiencing the redness/itching/burning associated with yeast infections you probably need to move up to the big guns (namely an over the counter treatment or anti-fungal pill).

The yoghurt may need a few days to come out naturally. Some will be absorbed and some will leave the body. Wear a pantyliner for a few days. The texture you’re describing does sound consistent with yoghurt. Natural vaginal discharge wouldn’t be white and watery after a yeast infection. Just leave it to do it’s thing. If you douche or try to physically remove the yoghurt you’ll just irritate your vagina and possibly do more harm than good.

Drinking 8 small bottles will do no more good than drinking 1 or 2. All it will do it up your calorie count for the day, and possibly upset your stomach if you’re sensitive to dairy. If you want a better fix I’d buy a probiotic supplement from your pharmacy or health foods store. Yoghurt has sugar, and yeast thrives on sugar. You’re kind of feeding your infection.

Also, if you have a little yeast left over that means you’re NOT cured. You’ll continue to have recurring infections. (Yeast is a natural part of our flora, but an overgrowth is no fun)

Anything more serious than a mild yeast infection usually requires medical treatment of some sort.

Ive never heard of putting yogurt up there.. =[
They sell yeast infection testing kits at drug stores. I was told by a doc once just to eat the yogurt…

Well…if you googled long enough you would come across some studies where PLAIN yogurt can be inserted. But seriously the poor area is already itchy, swollen, irritated and full of unwanted discharge..why add more. What you are looking for is to EAT any type of yogurt that has acidophilus in it. Much cleaner and yummier way to help this situation. OR you could pick up acidophilus supplements at your local health food store and take directly. Check out the link below for additional benefits. UGH…one of the many glories of being a WOMAN!

Many women eat yogurt regularly to keep from ‘getting’ a yeast infection–but it is not foolproof. I have never heard of putting yogurt up the vagina–never–and I’ve worked in medicine for 23 years now!

All that work you are doing–you could simply buy Fenstat–a 3 night cream insertion and it’d be gone by now.
Or call your doctor and simply tell him/her that you have all the symptoms of a yeast infection and could he’she call the pharmacy for Diflucan. It is ONE pill and gets rid of the infection within a couple of days! Good luck.
As you may know, many things can cause a yeast infection–taking antibiotics is one of the most common—also wearing nylon underwear vs. cotton (which absorbs moisture)–also stress, and weraing too tight slacks.
