If you have had a yeast infection, I REALLY need your help!?

Hi, my name is Sarah. I am using my boy friends yahoo account because I do not have one and I am in desperate need of some personal information/advice.

So, ok, for about 4-5 days already, Ive been thinking i have ayeastinfection. I have never had one in my life but I had wierd itching on the outside of my vagina and a small amount of "lumpy" white discharge. Today, I went to the emergency room because i couldnt stand it anymore. They told me I had a yeast infection and gave me a small pill at the emergency room. The doctor said it was diflucan/fluconazole, and that one pill should cure the yeast infection. He gave me a prescription for one more pill in case the yeast infection isn’t cured.
My question is, what were your experiences and how was your yeast infection resolved? Please tell me your experiences I am worried that the medicine won’t help the infection, only make it worse, since it probably also kills the "good guys" your body needs.
Oh, I almost forgot, please tell me HOW you cured your yeast infection, if anything made it worse, and how long your symptoms lasted after treatment.
THANKS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE THAT WILL HELP.

If that does not work and you are experiencing pain in your ovaries then i would suggest gettin an ultrasound to check for a ovarian cyst.. I had one and just thought it was a uti infection and it turned out reallly bad

I’m a mom with two kids, not a doctor, but I have been through that many times. It happens…nothing to be embarassed about. Yes, that stuff should work. Make sure you follow the package directions carefully. That is prescription, much different than over the counter. Very powerful stuff indeed.
I usually just buy over the counter 3 day treatment and it works fine too.

Diflucan works great and most people do not need a second dose unless the yeast infection is caused by ongoing antibiotic use. It does take a couple of days to start getting the full effect of the medicine. You can go get a dose of Monostat or something similar over the counter if you want more immediate itch/burn relief.

Just use one day of the Monostat for relief as to not over medicate. Don’t waste your money on the expensive one day only treatment either. You can get the cheap 3-5 day treatment and use one out of it. You will not be killing off the "good guys" with this kind of dosage. You wont even come close. Yeast is resilient.

I’ve had 3 or so yeast infections and they sucked. I used over-the-counter medicine, Monistat. Monistat is in the same class of medication as Diflucan, so they work very similarly.

Diflucan is the brand name for the medicine called fluconazole (like Tylenol is the brand name for acetaminophen). It’s an anti-fungal medication and works by inhibiting fungal cells from making necessary parts of their cell wall, therefore they can’t grow anymore.

It won’t make your infection worse and it shouldn’t kill the "good guys" as it is specifically targeted toward the fungal bacteria that’s causing your yeast infection.

I didn’t have any problems with Monistat and I don’t anticipate you having any problems with Diflucan.

I used to to get BAD reoccurring yeast infections…they were awful. Don’t worry about the Diflucan, I took that every time I had one and it helps A LOT. You should notice relief in a few hours. If you want to make sure it’s really gone, take the next pill in 7 days. My problem was I had a bacterial infection AND a yeast infection, so it took a while to cure both. If you don’t feel relief after 7 days I would go to your family doctor or gyno, because you might have the same thing. They can’t tell if you have a bacterial infection without a urine test and I don’t know if they did that for you in the ER. Some other things helped me out a lot and I still do this every so often to prevent them because I seem prone…drink 100% cranberry juice, lay in a bathtub with warm water (but don’t use any bath salts or oils – those will just irritate you). Maybe add some Epsom salt to the bath. And eat a lot yogurt. I eat yogurt pretty often now because it keeps the bad yeast away. Look for something that says "Contains live active yogurt cultures" or something along those lines. Don’t be worried about the Diflucan though, I promise you it will help! I hope you feel better all those things I mentioned will help :)

The medicine will help the infection. You will notice it working sometime around 48 hours of taking the medicine. Every women sometime in there life will get a yeast infection. In 8th grade I got one. I had no idea what it was, and I was embarrassed to ask anyone for help. I think I let myself suffer for about week. Finally I put my pride aside, and told my mom. The next day I went to my doctors, and sure enough I had a yeast infection. The doctor gave me my medicine and I was worried at first that It might not work. I mean, when it itches and burns that bad down there, you really just think there’s no hope. But like I said, 48 hours and you notice the improvement. Hope I helped, and I hope you get better. I know it’s not fun.

I’m fairly certain that the pills are going to work. There’s a slim chance that your bf has a little infection as well so if yours comes back you’ll need to get some stuff at Wal-Mart or something and use it and your bf can use the cream. Monistat or whatever brand will do it. The pill’s probably all you need though and your bf may not have any yeast at all. We get yeast infections from time to time and it’s not a big deal… it’s not like it means your dirty or anything so don’t fret.

nah the pill works and yes those symptoms are those of a yeast infection

with mine, the infection came back about a week later so i had to do the pill thing again but after that it was fine. I just now sleep without pants or anything so my vag can breathe. i also make sure i dry it really well after a shower or bath before i put panties on. now i havent had one since, but if you want to go to a drug store and get some pills called lactobacillus believe me they work just take one a day they are the healthy bacteria that help your vag defend against bag things.

    hope i helped :)

I took some antibiotics and developed a yeast infection. I went to the supermarket and bought an over-the-counter treatment. All symptoms disappeared in a day.
It really isn’t anything to worry about. If this treatment tended to make the problem worse, it would not have been prescribed to you. Yeast infections are very minor, however uncomfortable they may be. Just follow your course of treatment and if the problem is not resolved, ask another doctor.

I’ve had good results with the pill. I’ve also had good results with the otc concoctions you can buy in the supermarket. They come with an applicator which you insert in your most female part. Be sure you are laying down and don’t get up again for at least an hour. The meds need time to work.
What I like about the otc kind is it takes care of the itching almost instantly. If you don’t want to do that diphenhydraine will stop the itching . It also makes you really sleepy so don’t take before work. Your boss will think your drunk.
