Vaginal yeast infection (candidiasis) from steroids? *WARNING* sorry, gross!?

Hi, I was on extremely high doses of both steroids and antibiotics for asthma/sinus infection, and now I’ve been off both for about 3/7 days (off steroids for 3, off antibiotics for a week), but I’m pretty sure that what I’ve had is a yeast infection for a week or so. I was itchy down there, but now it stings, burns, is very red, and still itchy. I have my period as well, so I haven’t noticed any sort of discharge, but I’ve gotten yeast infections before without any discharge. My problem is that I’ve always taken Diflucan, which clears it up within 2 days, and when I took it 3 days ago, it started to feel better but now the feeling is back and worse than ever. It kind of stings when I urinate too (not like a UTI feeling, but it stings on the OUTSIDE). Can that all be just a very persistant yeast infection? Also, can hormones contribute to it too? My hormones have been a mess since the steroids. Thank you so much and sorry for the gross topic!

Both antibiotics and corticosteroids will cause you to develop a yeast infection. And as long as you’re still taking them (don’t stop be caused of this, though), you will still have that yeast infection.

There are a couple of other things to consider here as well. First, and most important, is that corticosteroids will screw with your blood sugar levels, among other things. If you are diabetic, even if you haven’t been diagnosed with diabetes (the estimate is that for every person who has been diagnosed with Type II diabetes, there is someone walking around with undiagnosed Type II diabetes), then one of the symptoms can be a stubborn or recurrent vaginal yeast infection. Get checked.

Secondly, a vaginal yeast infection is almost always a symptom of a system yeast infection, and that can cause all kinds of problems. Go to your local public library and borrow anything you can find on yeast and/or candida (that’s the name of the organism) written by Dr William G Crook, MD or by Dr Zolan Rona, MD. Follow the directions in the books. One thing that you will notice there is that managing this problem takes a two-pronged approach of diet and either drugs or supplements. The supplements in this case are as effective as the drugs and you don’t need a prescription.

However, you do very much need to see your doctor about the possible causes of this infection.

I’m also giving you a link about sinus problems.

Recommendation – talk to your doctor. You may be having some sort of allergic reaction outside of the potential yeast infection side effect. Get it taken care of and SOON or you risk additional infection.

I’d be inclined to say that the thrush (yeast infection) is from the anti-biotics, not the steroids. The problem is that anti-biotics kill off all the -biotics in your body, including the good ones. Probiotics live in your gut and places like your vagina, so when you take antibiotics, it totally destroys the good stuff too.
I get thrush within hours of taking the first dose of all antibiotics. Well, I don’t any more because I refuse to take antiobiotics.
Now that you’ve got it I can only suggest keep trying with the anti-thrush stuff, cut yeast and sugar out of your diet straight away and try to stay off them for a while. Not sure where you are in the world, but here in the UK you can get "Citricidal" in either tablet or liquid form which may well also help.
There is of course the tried and trusted yoghurt method. Get a live yoghurt (with probiotic) and stick it up there! As you’ve got your period you’ll probably find it easiest to do this by dipping a tampon into the yoghurt before you insert it. Messy but it may well help.
And get yourself a really good probiotic supplement – probably 3 a day, one with each meal.
    Good luck!

All the doctor or OB-GYN will do is give you more antibiotics. Obviously, they are not working. What you need is a natural antibiotic.
***Bacteria can too easily develop resistence to man-made antibiotics because the antibiotics are too simple. So it takes stronger antibiotics each time to take care of the problem. That sounds like what is happening to you.
    ***GARLIC
Penicillin has one chemical constituent and that is Penicillin. Tetracycline: one-Tetracycline. Amoxicillin: one-Amoxicillin. Garlic has at least 35 constituents. They "potentiate, enhance, and mitigate each other’s effects inside the human body." That’s like taking 35 medications in one! Doctors are even combining man-made antibiotics these days in order to get a higher success rate-but it still doesn’t compare to the success rate of garlic! Learn more about garlic here: http://www.bulkherbstore.com/GM

    VAGINAL THRUSH TREATMENTS
GARLIC Douche: Blend 1 or 2 cloves of garlic in blender with 1 cup water. Strain and add eough water to make 1 quart of solution. Douche as usual.
APPLE CIDER BATH- Sit in a tub of water with Apple Cider Vinegar poured in it. This one is good, too, for children who get yeast from antibiotics.
ACIDOLPHILUS Douche or capsule inserted at night (can get capsules at Walmart and other drug stores)
    COMFREY Tea Douche

BTW-Sugar can feed yeast (thrush) so you may want to monitor your sugar intake as well.
